A MINDFUL WAY TO HEALTHY SLEEP - ONLINE COURSE

A Mindful Way to Healthy Sleep is an online self-paced program, developed by Dr Giselle Withers, Clinical Psychologist. The program will teach you the gold standard sleep management strategies of cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) and skills in mindfulness to help you sleep better. A small independent study run by Monash University found this program helped over 75% of participants overcome insomnia.

Sleep Well, Live Well Program

The Insomnia Clinic offers a Sleep Well, Live Well program includes:

  • Three 60 min individual psychology sessions via Telehealth (video call)
  • The online course: “A Mindful Way to Healthy Sleep” (purchased at www.amindfulway.com.au

This combination of individual guidance and online learning is an effective and affordable way to improve your sleep, teaching you all the skills and strategies you need to overcome insomnia, with the convenience of undertaking the online program at your home and in your own time.

Week One

Attend first Individual 1:1 session with psychologist via Telehealth/Video Call (approx. 60 mins)

The assessment session will include:

  • Understanding your sleep problems, causes and contributing factors
  • Exploring co-existing issues such as health problems, immediate or chronic stressors, work satisfaction, relationship or family stressors, anxiety or low mood, use of caffeine, alcohol or other substances, exposure to past traumatic events or situations.
  • Understanding your strengths, supports and coping skills
  • Feedback and recommendations based on the psychologist’s assessment


Start Week 1 of “Sleep: A Mindful Way” online program (2 hours)

Begin self-led online training hosted at amindfulway.com.au

  • Watch video lessons: Learn sleep science, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi) and mindfulness training.
  • Start sleep diary and begin CBTi and mindfulness training as directed in program.

Week Two

Begin Week 2 of “Sleep: A Mindful Way” online program (1.5 hours)

Continue self-led online training.

  • Watch video lessons, undertake practice and written exercises
  • Complete 2nd week of sleep diary, continue CBTi and mindfulness training.

Week Three

Begin Week 3 of “Sleep: A Mindful Way” online program (1.5 hours)

Continue self-led online training.

  • Watch video lessons: Continue CBTi and mindfulness training.
  • Begin Sleep Consolidation program. Complete 3rd week of sleep diary

Week Four

Attend your second individual 1:1 session with psychologist via Telehealth/Video Call (approx. 60 mins)

  • Review progress, clarify questions, and discuss ways to overcome any barriers.
  • Review sleep diary and sleep consolidation program and adjust as needed
  • Review mindfulness training and provide support for maintaining the practice.


Begin Week 4 of “Sleep: A Mindful Way” online program (1.5 hours)

Continue self-led online training.

  • Watch video lessons: Continue CBTi and mindfulness training.
  • Continue Sleep Consolidation program and adjust as needed. Complete 4th week of sleep diary

Week Five

Begin Week 5 of “Sleep: A Mindful Way” online program (1.5 hours)

Continue self-led online training.

  • Watch video lessons: Continue CBTi and mindfulness training.
  • Continue Sleep Consolidation program and adjust as needed
  • Complete 5th week of sleep diary

Week Six

Begin Week 6 of “Sleep: A Mindful Way” online program (1.5 hours)

Continue self-led online training.

  • Watch video lessons: Complete final components of CBTi and mindfulness training.
  • Continue Sleep Consolidation program and adjust as needed
  • Complete 6th week of sleep diary

Follow up session

3rd Individual 1:1 session via Telehealth/Video Call (approx. 60 mins) – (2-3 weeks after program). 

  • Review current sleep issues and address any ongoing concerns.
  • Review progress through treatment and review questionnaires.
  • Prepare for managing setbacks and review relapse prevention plan.
  • Discuss referral options and other further resources if more help is required.

*A Medicare rebate of $129.55 is available for the individual sessions with valid GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan


Register for the SLEEP WELL, LIVE WELL program:

  1. Email Giselle at sleep@avokahealth.com.au with your request to be registered for the program.
  2. Following registration you can book in your three individual Telehealth appointments on the Insomnia Clinic page booking calendar. An invoice will be sent for the first session prior to your first appointment.
  3. Begin the A Mindful Way to Healthy Sleep program anytime. The course can be purchased at amindfulway.com.au

Note: This program is solely focussed on sleep problems and is not a treatment for co-existing mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, addiction, or trauma, etc. You may be referred for individual therapy if the Sleep Well, Live Well program is not suitable for you. In this case, you will only be charged for the initial assessment session.
